First of all congratulations on securing your path in to UK & NHS. I am sure many are thrilled while anxious for various reasons, and that is absolutely fine. The intent of this blog is to share some useful tips for new starters, irrespective of your location or specialty. Below are few pointers:

Arrange a few meetings for yourself

  • Arrange for a meeting with the Trust HR at the earliest. They will need to sort out initial checks/verification etc. They will also direct you to occupational team for blood checks and other requirements. HR may also be able to recommend hospital accommodations/facilities etc that you can avail
  • Arrange for a meeting with your Clinical Supervisor/Appraiser at the earliest. This is extremely useful, as you will be able to discuss needs or areas of support. This will allow them to identify the need for a shadowing period if applicable
  • Attend your Trust Induction Program as this will help you get familiar with various social aspects of the trust and provide you with additional requirements for your job (access etc)
  • Talk with colleagues to understand more about hospital facilities (e.g. cafeteria, transport or parking etc) that are available
